What if someone you respected told you that the calculations allude to this year being the year for the coming of Mashiach? If these words sank in it would be hard to continue with life as normal. To go about the daily routine without desiring to share this message with as many people as possible. It is for this reason that I decided to write this article for you today.
Harav (Rabbi) Yitzchak Ginsburgh delivered a class a few weeks ago, written up in part here, pertaining to the Redemption. As he explains, according to the Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi over 200 years ago, and other Torah sages, calculations for the final date of the Redemption point to this year of 5775.
As mentioned in the article, the truth is that we pray every day that Mashiach should come today, as the Talmud states, “Today, if you listen to His word.” But we also have clear calculations that suggest 5775 will be the year. And especially now that we are in 5775, learning what the sages of Israel have said about this year only stands to encourage and inspire. To show us that although the present situation (especially in the Land of Israel) is difficult, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and that light is fast approaching.
Aside from instilling hope, there is another reason for promoting these calculations. And that is to inspire us to reach out to other Jews, as mentioned in Rav Ginsburgh’s essay, to the 3550 “surplus” souls that don’t have a corresponding letter in the Torah scroll, but nonetheless are special souls that have a direct connection to God.
What should be the take-home lesson from reading this? That when we feel that a message is imperative, then the desire to share the message with others becomes pressing. A task to do today and not tomorrow.
I encourage you to read the article linked to above. Hopefully it will inspire you as well to take your own steps forward. To work to integrate something most remarkable into the specific and practical things each of us can do in these last moments of exile.
