An article in this week's Time Magazine on US efforts to undermine Saddam Hussein claims that Israeli special forces have been operating in western Iraq on reconnaissance and training missions. According to the report, US and Israelis officials told Time that Israeli units are surveying for places where Iraq may have hidden scud missiles and launchers left intact after the 1991 Gulf War. The article also says that Israel will ask the US to allow it to contribute special teams to the search for missiles should a war on Baghdad break out.
In other Iraq-Israel news, Sharon government spokesman Ra'anan Gissin told CNN's Late Edition news magazine yesterday, that while Israel is not encouraging the US to go to war with Iraq, "we [Israel] support the United States, and President Bush' efforts to eradicate terrorism, because its a threat to all democracies around the world. But we have no intention of going to war, and we're not involved in this war."
