Prime Minister Ariel Sharon toured the Jerusalem border this morning, accompanied by Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert. Olmert recently came out in support of Sharon in the latter's race for Likud party leadership against Binyamin Netanyahu. Both Olmert and Sharon denied rumors that Olmert had already been offered the Foreign Ministry in the next government. The Shas party newspaper endorsed Netanyahu this weekend.
Meanwhile, a Bar Ilan University poll shows that Netanyahu has slightly closed the gap between himself and Sharon. The survey, conducted yesterday, indicates 41% for Sharon and 34% for Netanyahu. Curiously, the same poll shows that 82% of Likud membership are against the establishment of a Palestinian state - i.e., they take Netanyahu's position on this matter. On the other hand, a Yediot Acharonot poll shows that Sharon is leading Netanyahu by a full 18 percentage points, 56-38.
