IDF forces shot and killed at least four Palestinian terrorists last night during an operation in the Tul Karem district. One of the dead was Tarek al-Za'al, a senior member of Yasser Arafat's Tanzim terror organization. Za'al had been wanted for planning the attack at a Hadera hall during a Bat Mitzvah in January that left six Israelis dead, for a series of shootings in the Tul Karem area, and for planning yet another attack in the coming days.

The confrontation began when Border Policemen arrived at Za'al's home to arrest him; he tried to escape, and was shot dead. Two Arabs died when they tried to run over soldiers with their car; the troops shot at them, their car veered off the road and slammed into a wall, and they were killed. A fourth terrorist was shot and killed when he climbed atop an IDF armored vehicle and hurled a firebomb. A fifth man was also killed in the crossfire in one of the shooting incidents. Several other wanted terrorists were taken into custody during the operation.

Reuters News Agency, reporting on the story last night, referred to the Oslo War as a "Palestinian uprising for independence." Another sentence in the report stated that the army accused wanted terrorist Tarek al-Za'al "of masterminding attacks on Israelis as part of a two-year-old Palestinian independence uprising." The word "terrorist" did not appear in the report, nor was there any hint that the Palestinian "independence seekers" had murdered 460 Israeli civilians over the past 25 months in their beds, cars, Bat Mitzvah celebrations, etc.

A double terrorist infiltration into Kfar Darom in Gaza was thwarted last night when the two would-be murderers were spotted by security forces, which opened fire. The two Arabs fled, took up positions in an abandoned house, and began shooting at the soldiers. Following a prolonged gunbattle, during which Kfar Darom residents were told to stay indoors, an IDF demolition crew was called in to level the structure with the terrorists inside, killing them both.

IDF troops entered Kalkilye, a town given over to PA control several years ago, in search of wanted terrorists early this morning. At least six were taken into custody, in addition to some 30 others arrested throughout Yesha (Judea, Samaria, and Gaza) since last night. Near Tul Karem today, a 14-year-old youth who threw a Molotov cocktail at soldiers was shot and killed, while Arabs also fired at Border Guard policemen, causing no injuries.

The northern front awoke again when Hizbullah fired anti-aircraft weapons into Israel today. No damage was reported.
