(Updated Monday 9:30 AM) Israel's "voice to the world" Abba Eban, will be laid to rest today in the Kfar Shmaryahu cemetary. Israel's Government Press Office has released a time-line of Eban's lifetime acheivements and his contributions to the Jewish State:
1915-1916 - Born in Cape Town; moved to London
1936 - Study of Semitic languages at Cambridge University
1940 - Enlisted in British army
1946-1947 - Employed at Jewish Agency (Political Department)
1947 - Jewish Agency Liaison Officer to UNSCOP
1948 - Israeli representative at UN
1949 - First permanent Israeli Ambassador to UN
1950-1959 - Israeli Ambassador to US and UN
1952 - Vice-President of UN General Assembly
1956-1958 - President of Weizmann Institute of Science
1959 - Elected to Knesset
1959-1960 - Minister without Portfolio
1960-1963 - Education and Culture Minister
1963-1966 - Deputy Prime Minister
1966-1974 - Foreign Minister (struggled for Israel's right to
self-defense during 1967 Six Day War and helped formulate UN Security
Council Resolutions #242 and #338)
1974-1991 - President of Beit Berl College in Kfar Saba
1974-1988 - Member of Knesset (served as Chairman of Knesset Foreign
Affairs and Defense Committee for four years)
2001 - Winner of Israel Prize
