(Updated Monday 9:15AM) An Arab who holds Israeli citizenship had his plans to hijack an El Al airliner foiled last night, when he was tackled to the ground by two plain-clothed air marshals while trying to storm the plane's cockpit. El AL flight number 581 was en route from Tel Aviv to Istanbul, Turkey when 23-year old Tawfik Fukara, wielding a pen knife that he managed to sneak on board, tried to stab a stewardess and then charged towards the cockpit. Fukara was subdued, and the plane with its 170 passengers landed safety in Istanbul. Fukara is currently being held by Turkish officials for questioning and is slated to be turned over to Israeli security personnel. An investigation has been ordered to determine how the armed Arab managed to board the aircraft.
