Thousands of people attended the funeral of Col. Dror Weinberg in Kfar Saba today, and eulogies were delivered by Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, Defense Minister Mofaz, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Moshe Yaalon, Rabbi Oded Vilensky - a rabbi of the deceased at Yeshivat Merkaz HaRav who himself lost a son and daughter-in-law to terrorism this summer - and others. Mofaz said, "Our reckoning with the terrorists in Hevron is tough and bitter… We seek peace, but we will not fall into the trap of smooth talk. People of blood and deceit will no longer be our partners in dialogue."
Yoni Bleichbard, security officer of Hevron, told Arutz-7, "Dror always strived to be the leader, and not dragged along; he was an initiator… His style of command was an almost impossible combination of humanity and empathy together with strictness and rigidity - parallel to his integration of military professionalism and his spiritual path in Merkaz HaRav."
Relatives said today that Dror sought to be not Chief of Staff, but rather Chief IDF Education Officer, where he would be able to shape future generations of Israeli fighters. Survived by his pregnant wife Hadassah and five children, Col. Weinberg was buried next to his two uncles who fell in the Six-Day War.
Over 1,000 Jews gathered at the site of the battle in Hevron last night to take part in a vigil in memory of the fallen. Knesset Members Rabbi Benny Elon and Yuri Stern (Moledet) addressed the crowd.
