Israelis have lost faith in the ability of their politicians and their political parties to solve the country’s problems.

Israel’s “federal” system of government does not require politicians to actually contribute anything constructive.

The main reason is because Israel’s “federal” system of government does not require politicians to actually contribute anything constructive to the country’s future, but merely to show up to attend Knesset proceedings (most don’t even do that). Israel’s elected officials are rewarded with salaries and political power, and are not required to provide anything to the taxpayer in return.

The other major problem of the “federal” system of government is that it does not provide the public with efficient and high-quality public services. This is due to the massive waste and inefficiency that is caused when these public services are allocated from government officials in Jerusalem, rather than from the region where the taxpayers reside and the tax revenues are paid.

In a regional government system the budgets and decision-making power would remain in the geographical location where the tax revenues are collected, not merely get sent to Jerusalem. All forms of taxation - income, VAT and municipal - will be used to pay for government services in the region where the residents live.

In a regional government system, all national expenses such as for defence, Bank of Israel, foreign affairs, etc. are paid for by five regional governments according to the population distribution in each region. The residents in the Tel Aviv region, for example, will pay proportionally more for federal expenses, as Tel Aviv is more populous than the southern region.

In a regional government system, directly elected public officials will manage regional ministries - not one national minister in Jerusalem, as it is in the current federal system. These elected officials will be placed in public office

It will place the power to decide the country’s fate in the hands of the citizens.

due to their expertise and commitment to devise and implement practical solutions to the country’s problems, not due to a party affiliation.

Regional government will eliminate self-serving politicians, all political parties and ineffective government bureaucrats. It will place the power to decide the country’s fate in the hands of the citizens and require elected officials to be accountable only to the voters who elected them to serve in public office. Politicians will not be able to use public funds and taxpayers funds to bribe parties to further their own or their party’s interests. No longer will special interest groups be able to rape the Israeli taxpayer by supporting certain politicians or political parties who then pass legislation which favors their clients.

A regional government system is not only a more efficient system of government, it is a more democratic one, as the voters will be in charge of their destiny. The residents of the five regions will decide their fate, not the self-serving politicians and political parties in Jerusalem.
