Pretending a charging lion isn’t coming in for the kill doesn’t do a whole heckuva lot to change reality. It smells a delicious meal and the ostrich with its head in the sand soon makes for some serious fresh blood. So, too, in the case of Israel surrounded by hostile enemies ever hell bent on its destruction.

Israel has the means to totally uproot and get rid of her enemies.

No matter what plans Israel makes for peace, no matter how much land they give away, the Arabs are licking their chops for more. And so, much like the ostrich in fantasy land, Israel knocks off a few "loaded gun" terrorists and pretends to have done its duty. Each one-sided peace deal has only served to bring the terrorists closer and closer to the very heartland of tiny Israel. Rather than face facts and admit this terrible mistake, the government continues on its suicidal path of even more so-called “peace” deals. There’s even been talk of Ehud Olmert holding secret discussions with Mahmoud Abbas about dividing up Jerusalem.

Who’s fooling whom here?

The crazy thing, of course, is that Israel has the means to totally uproot and get rid of her enemies. They have the physical ability to wipe Hamas off the map, and no sane person would ever question her right to do so - not after the daily rocket attacks and attempted kidnappings. All this, of course, after Israel gave away Gaza to the Arabs for “peace.” No other country in the history of civilization would tolerate this sort of daily aggression and open hostility on its borders.

Hamas is having a joyride and Israel is letting them get away, literally, with murder. While Israel has the physical means to clean up shop once and for all, the government lacks the confidence and self-respect to do the right thing. Like the ostrich, Olmert and company show little backbone under pressure. They “fiddle while Rome burns,” and continue to negotiate in “good faith” while Hamas builds up its arsenal with even deadlier weapons, and Iran carries on with its nuclear program.

It is time to take back Gaza. And, while it still can be done, it is time to do the entire world a huge favor and knock out Iran’s nuclear facilities - before it’s simply too late.

One wonders just what it will take for Olmert and this inept government to finally take some decisive action.

Sederot and now Ashkelon are under almost daily missile attack. The United Nations, under the spell of Arab influence and oil, will never condemn the Palestinian Authority or Hamas for these terrorist attacks. No, they will keep on meeting and chastise only one country - Israel, especially whenever it tries to defend itself.

One wonders just what it will take for Olmert and this inept government to finally take some decisive action. Will they wait for an assault on Tel Aviv? A brazen attack on the hallowed Knesset? Or on Olmert's home, perhaps? Or will they carry on business as usual and continue to talk peace until only one tiny Jewish town still remains? I guess the question can be put as follows: Does an ostrich, under the lion's charge, ever change its nature, or does it dig its head deeper into the sand?

We can only hope that the real lion, Israel, will finally wake up, raise its mighty head at last, and scatter the enemies like dust in the wind.
