On my last trip to Israel, I met with my good friend Brigadier-General (ret.) Avigdor Kahalani. He spoke glowingly of his project to instill the spirit of Israel - that he understood very well - in the nation's youth.
Some remember Kahalani by his nickname of "Avi the Burned." He fought like a tiger. When his tank on the Golan Heights was hit, he went to another tank and, though he was burned over a major part of his body, continued to fight the advancing Syrians.

Kahalani planned to take young Israelis up to the Golan on lecture tours called, "In the Footsteps of the Warriors." However, some of those in Israel have neither the spirit of Israel in them, nor do they care if Israel's youth has that spirit.
Dr. Alon Liel, a former Director General of the Foreign Ministry and apparently a closet leftist, objected to students seeing the fields of battle. He is convinced that the students will connect with past battles and, particularly, with the Golan Heights. But Liel wants to surrender the Golan's strategic high plateau points, which can observe and monitor the Syrian military if they should attempt to mobilize and prepare to attack Israel. Israel's Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, also says he wants to abandon the Golan to Bashar Assad.
So, that traitorous weakling sent a letter to another leftist, Education Minister Yuli Tamir, asking her to stop Kahalani's tours of the Golan for high school students.
You may remember Yuli Tamir as the Education Minister who wanted to change the curriculum of students dealing with the Holocaust, and to cancel the inspiring student tours, called "March of the Living," into the Nazi death camps in Poland. Here, again, Tamir and the other Olmert leftists wanted our past erased from the memories of Israel's youth.
Strange, isn't it? A great hero, who was willing to give his life to save the Jewish nation on the Golan Heights when Syria attacked, and here Kahalani is fighting for Israel's youth and the spirit that once guided the nation; yet, his enemy is now those leftists who act like they hate their own nation and people, that they hate their Jewishness and, above all, hate the history of defending their country.
Ehud Olmert, who never really fought a battle to save the nation, said, "We are sick and tired of fighting and winning." The role models for Israel's youth are now a cowardly Prime Minister whose only interest is to grovel before President George Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, to kowtow to their demands to dismember Israel and divide Jerusalem.
These are no role models for Israel's youth to emulate. When a true hero wants to put the spirit back into the hearts and minds of a disillusioned youth, in steps the spoilers. No pride, no honor - only self-contempt. That is the ongoing message of today from Liel, Olmert, Shimon Peres, Chaim Ramon and Ehud Barak, among others. These disquieting anti-heroes have compromised the Israeli government and dismissed past heroes.
The latest decisions regarding the educational tours are not unlike the leftist government decision after the miraculous Six Day War, when the leaders decided not to say the

words, "Thank G-d," thus reaffirming the miracle of that astonishing win.

words, "Thank G-d," thus reaffirming the miracle of that astonishing win. Leftists have been chewing on the pillars that support the state almost from the beginning. They didn't want a "Jewish" State, but just a place to live - it doesn't matter where. Most of Israel's leftists are ready to leave to any country that will have them.
Avigdor Kahalani is a true hero and role model of courage and love of country. Some leftists must truly hate him because he is everything they are not and never could be. If touring is to be stopped because of the inspiration of past battles, then there is not one inch of ground in Israel for which the Jews have not had to fight and die.
When will the Jewish nation rise up and take back their country? After Annapolis will probably be too late. Act now.
