"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." - George Santayana in The Life of Reason - Volume I
"For the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honor. I believe it is peace for our time." - Neville Chamberlain on September 30, 1938, after returning from the Munich Conference, where he agreed to "peacefully" turn over the Sudetenland, a German-speaking section of Czechoslovakia, to Hitler.
The people of Israel have reason to believe that returning land leads to peace. It has worked to some degree with Egypt. But Egypt is hardly pro-Israel, despite these peaceful overtures and the treaty that Jimmy Carter helped orchestrate between Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin.
The enemy we are dealing with now is not Anwar Sadat's Egypt (keep in mind, the people of Egypt were so pleased with this treaty that to "reward" Sadat they assassinated him). They are the "rightful" heirs of the Nazis who murdered 6 million Jews and several million Gentiles.
Back in the 1930s, Hitler decided he wanted to remove the Jews from the nation he ruled. So he had resolved to deport the Jews to the then-British protectorate of Palestine (the area that is now the state of Israel and the nation of Jordan). There was only one problem. In Palestine was a man named Haj Amin Al-Husseini who didn't want the Jews in "his" land. Husseini suggested to Hitler that it would be cheaper and easier to just "liquidate" (a.k.a. murder) the Jews. Hitler found this to be an appropriate "final solution" to what he called the "Jewish problem".
Hitler also wasn't satisfied with just the Sudetenland. He wanted Poland. And, based on previous experience, he thought that England would just hand it over to him. But England finally decided that enough was enough and declared war on Germany.
If World War II taught us nothing else, it should have taught us that dictators and other evil people are never satisfied with just a piece of pie ? they want the entire bakery. Hitler's goal was to rule the world. This is also the goal of the Islamist terrorists who are the philosophical descendants of Husseini. They want to destroy freedom and democracy. So, why has Ariel Sharon handed them the "keys to the kingdom" without so much as a fight?
It is patently obvious by now that the Palestinian terrorist regime (don't be fooled by the suits and ties, they are still Husseini and Yasser Arafat's foot soldiers) doesn't want a "two-state" solution. Ehud Barak offered them a state years ago. Their answer was not negotiation. Their answer was to attack Israel using homicide bombers, children and young adults, male and female, strapped with explosives, detonating their human bombs in the most populated places they could find ? a Tel Aviv night club filled with teenagers and young adults, a Sbarro's pizza parlor crowded with children and their families, a hotel lobby where families were celebrating Passover, a boys' yeshiva dining hall on a Shabbat night - this is only a short list.
These terrorists are part of the same organized terror that murdered people in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in the US, partyers in Bali, American soldiers in Iraq, shoppers in India, and bus and train travelers in England. So why do world leaders, whose people are being murdered by these terrorists, want to give them a gift? Why is the world rewarding terrorism? Why did Sharon take away the homes of good people (these are not the wide-eyed radicals that the Israeli and world press seemed hell-bent to portray them as. These are good people who were brave enough to live close to where the bombs are coming from, courageous enough to act as a buffer zone between the entire state of Israel and its Palestinian enemies) and handing them over to the enemies of not only Israel, but of the entire free world?
I can't understand how supposedly intelligent people, people who are capable of seeing the link between the terrorists who destroyed the World Trade Center, killing several thousand people in the process, and the terrorists killing soldiers in Iraq and killing civilians in London, can't see the link between these terrorists and the terrorists blowing up Jews (and Gentiles) in Israel. I also don't understand why Israel, the country that has taken in Jews and Gentiles from all over the world (including a large percentage of Arabs and Muslims), every race and creed, offering them religious and social freedom, is portrayed as racist, when the countries around Israel that have no Jews, few Christians or people of other faiths, and that persecute non-Muslims, are portrayed as bastions of open-mindedness.
I do understand one thing, though. When you reward terrorists what you get is more terrorism.
