The world looked on as our brothers and sisters in orange were herded and stuffed into buses while protesting peacefully. The world was surprised with this close-up view of the right-wing extremist, who had been vilified all these years. In tears and screams, their leadership humiliated, their infants embraced, these extremists gave up their homes, synagogues, schools and playgrounds to which they had so proudly tended under fire for decades. On a day when civil war could have erupted, soldier, policeman and the "menace" were hugging one another in tears. Where else on G-d's earth can such a thing happen?
World news organizations came hoping to report some blood and guts, but they were forced to report the kind of story they did not want to report. The unsettling part, for the rest of the world, is how young these extremists are.
The generalissimo may think that consolidating Gaza for demographic reasons is more important than our mandate from HaShem, but even in our "failure" we find much success.
The world has seen exactly how serious this "land for nothing" business is. It is not about real estate, but rather something seared deep in the Jewish soul. The world was able to take a glimpse into the character of the right-wing extremists. They are the best of Israel, the soul of Israel and indeed without them, there is no Israel.
This is only "round one". Round two will involve 250,000 right-wing extremists. Is the world ready to deal with that? Let us not forget, right-wing extremists fought and died for Eretz Yisrael. Many had already sacrificed much before this day of infamy and they are having to sacrifice again. Some were killed by Arab terrorists, some were maimed and some were expelled from Yamit twenty-three years ago.
The world does not understand that when we gave up the Sinai, all our obligations for relinquishing occupied lands were satisfied by any interpretation of any international laws. The generalissimo has caved in to unfounded world pressure because of his own former mistakes, but he has no legal or moral obligation to relinquish any land whatsoever, even according to non-Jewish law. He has unilaterally set a precedent for relinquishing more land. But he will not be in office for "round two" to rectify his mistake, with G-d's help.
Young people with such spirit, conviction and so many years ahead of them are the greatest asset we have. They are not only young, but they are breeding according to Torah, to rival the birthrate of the Arabs. They will have more children than this generation, they will be more observant than this generation and, yes, they will vote more than this generation. Someday, Heaven forfend, there will be a referendum on Judea or Samaria and our young, spirited brothers and sisters will vote. They will be in the majority. I am sure many who were not so sure about joining us in "round one" were moved enough to join us in "round two".
The Disengagement day of infamy has been a watershed in many ways; the world will never be the same again - geophysically, politically and mystically. I feel particularly inadequate even commenting on this day from my comfort in the Galut, but I am one voice proud to be counted as a right-wing extremist.
