For the sake of stability in Lebanon and the Middle East, with his gratitude to Congressman Elliot Engel for supporting the Syria Accountability Act, a new rapprochement is in motion between General Michel Aoun and Hizbullah.

While Hizbullah is on several lists of international terrorist organizations, for General Aoun, it is not. The new "alliance" of the returning exiled general and Christian opposition leader with Hizbullah prepares the way for the next "parliamentary elections" in Lebanon; on the political agenda will be the integration of this fully armed, international terrorist group into current Lebanese political life, as Aoun's perverse way of supporting UN Resolution 1559.

The Lebanese Foundation for Peace reminds General Aoun that Hizbullah must be neutralized politically and defeated military, not pampered. This terrorist group, supported by Iran and Syria, should be unconditionally demilitarized and destroyed, as it has put Middle East peace at risk. Hizbullah is destabilizing any possible peace between the Palestinians and Israelis by order of Damascus and Teheran. Hizbullah is destabilizing any possible peace in Iraq by order of Damascus and Teheran. What General Aoun is doing endangers the peace and stability of the region by implementing French, Syrian and Iranian policies in Lebanon.

We understand that France dominates the policy of the European Union, and that France wants to reduce American power in the Middle East. Obviously, the political vacuum left by Syria in withdrawing its military from Lebanon is replaced by Syria's proxy Hizbullah, a client terror organization of a fundamentalist Iran that refuses to disarm its nuclear program.

Including Hizbullah in the political life of Lebanon is the equivalent of the United States including Osama Bin-Laden and Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi in a political role in the next Iraqi parliament. The integration of Hizbullah, in a political compromise, will help the US and the Bush agenda win a pyrrhic victory over terrorism for which the US can then thank the new French initiative in the Middle East.

On the flip side, why is Washington silencing Israel in the war on terror? Washington is also losing the momentum on the ground in Iraq, as well as in Syria and Lebanon.

The one million Lebanese who demonstrated for freedom are being undermined by Washington at a time when Washington is promoting President George Bush's agenda for a new and democratic Middle East. Instead of promoting democracy, America is promoting terrorism in Lebanon today by standing by silently as this Syrian-Iranian-Hizbullah fait accompli develops.

Holding the planned elections at this time in Lebanon will reinforce the status quo, including the Syrian and Iranian footholds in Lebanon. It will give Syria and Iran the majority in the parliament. Instead of moving towards a general peace between Lebanese, Palestinians and Israelis, failing to support true democracy and to defeat terrorism in Lebanon will plunge the country in another civil war.

Talking the talk in the war against terrorism is fine, but Washington is walking a different kind of a walk.

This is a failure against terrorism and allows France's Jacques Chirac, having lost on the Iraqi front, to return the favor to the Americans in Lebanon through General Aoun, Hizbullah and the new French diplomacy.

The new Franco-American agreement on Lebanon, instead of a resource to promote the Bush agenda for freedom, will function the opposite way. It will increasingly strengthen the roots of terrorism by missing the opportunity to strike and defeat Syria and Iran's web of terror in the region.
