Machon Meir, with G-d's help, has been publishing its Love and Faith leaflet for five hundred weeks. The name is taken from the writings of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook:
"We long for the rebirth of the nation and the land, in order to give new life to our souls, to the Jewish People, to love and faith, strengthened by Torah and the full range of mitzvot.... We are seeking the welfare of Zion. We pine to rebuild the Land and to be rebuilt through it, so as to absorb its spirit and ambiance, and to be united with all the life that is associated with it."
And what is life?
"Love and faith are the essence of life in this world and in the World-to-Come. Nothing remains alive when it is robbed of these two light sources, love and faith. The transient culture, as it is presently being consolidated in the world, is entirely built upon heresy and hatred, which destroy independent life. It is impossible to overcome that sickness unless one uncovers the treasure of goodness stored away in the treasure-house of love and faith." (Orot HaTechiyah 17)
These days are times of sharp differences regarding our relationship to the Land of Israel and regarding the Jewish fabric of the State of Israel. We are like a family in which sharp differences threaten the family's unity. We are like children living in a quarreling family. Those children suffer, and they are confused and worried over the future that awaits them.
In these times, with the public split between Right and Left and between religious and irreligious, the call of the hour is to strengthen love and faith in the people, land and Torah of Israel. By such means, we will merit to see with our own eyes how G-d "brings a redeemer to the patriarchs' descendants, lovingly, for the sake of His name." (from the Shemoneh Esreh prayer)
