While Israel continues to play it "low key" in regard to an impending US strike on Baghdad, Foreign Minister Binyamin Netanyahu over the weekend publicized Israel's support for Friday's United Nations resolution calling on Saddam Hussein to announce - by next Friday- whether or not he will agree to dismantle his weapons of mass destruction. A statement released by Netanyahu's office said that, "Israel supports the U.N. Security Council resolution on the Iraqi issue, and values the determination of President Bush in leading the process."
The UN resolution also calls on Iraq to allow weapons inspectors complete access to all sites, including Saddam Hussein's presidential palaces. In addition, inspectors must be allowed to interview all Iraqi personnel, including scientists on the subject of weapons. The inspectors have until a date in February for reporting their findings back to the Security Council.
