Lt. Gen. Moshe Ya'alon, IDF Chief of Staff, said: "Evacuating the settlements will give a tail-wind to terrorism.... Everything that the Palestinians see as a crack in our ability to stand strong, distances the end of terrorism."
Avi Dichter, head of the Shabak (General Security Services): "The evacuation is dangerous, and the retreat will give the Palestinians a sense of victory and encouragement for terrorism."
Lt. Gen. Aharon Ze'evi Farkah, IDF Intelligence head: "The Sharon Plan is understood by the Palestinians as a victory for terrorism.... It will [prove] the effectiveness of terrorism in the view of Islamist elements."
It is time to relieve Israel's prime minister of his command. He has put the Jewish nation of Israel in grave jeopardy. If he were merely a politician unknowledgeable in the ways of war, he could or would claim ignorance. But Ariel Sharon is experienced as a field general and has, nevertheless, approved a plan to bring Israel's enemy closer to Israel's population centers.
He has been repeatedly advised by his own generals, by military intelligence, and now by Director Avi Dichter about the dangers of evacuating the forward positions of Gaza. Sharon, the general, knows that the nearby cities in Israel will be constantly bombarded with Kassam rockets, mortars and now, the new longer range "Arafat" rockets.
Sharon has committed himself to the goals of other nations and assists Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) as if he the prime minister of Israel were under the command of foreign interests. In any normal nation, that would be considered high treason. Knowingly putting both civilian cities and Israeli troops in harm's way should also bring the charge of crimes against the Jewish people.
Sharon and his aides must be removed from command, indicted, tried and, if found guilty, imprisoned for the murders and wounding of their own people. As prime minister, Sharon has abandoned any pretense of defending the nation, and has become a danger to the Jewish State.
Sharon's heroic past may be documented as a great part of our history, but, for whatever reasons, his present is a betrayal of the Jewish nation and what once were his principles. His efforts to bring the Egyptians back into the Sinai to police the Gaza district is only one - but a major one - indication of his betrayal. Leaving Gaza will immediately create a vacuum - to be filled by Arab Muslim Palestinians and by any of those organizations or individuals (Al-Qaeda, terrorists from Iraq or from Afghanistan) who want to enter the new operational center for global terrorism. Sharon's plans to evacuate all of Judea, Samaria and Gaza up to his border wall is another indication of malfeasance of office, violating his temporary stewardship of the Jewish Land, throwing away his own people's lives and well-being. All of the foregoing demonstrate just how far he is separated from being a competent prime minister.
Sharon's continuous stream of promises to the Israeli people, none of which he has kept, is another indication of that distance. His firing of patriots from his cabinet because they disagreed with his suicidal mission is another. Sharon's proclamations that he would abide by the results of the Likud referendum on his plan to disengage, and then his ignoring the results when they went against him, is another.
Why is Sharon doing this?
