To our dear brothers, the residents of Gush Katif and Samaria, G-d be with you!
How fortunate you are and how good is your lot that you have been privileged to be emissaries of the Jewish People of all generations! You bring merit not only to the Jewish People, but to the entire world. You increase light and goodness on earth. As is well known, the rebirth of the Jewish People in their land is not just a matter of our own people, survivors of the sword, finding a safe haven, but a global matter of increasing light throughout the entire world. That is because the People of Israel being in the Land of Israel brings light to the nations.
The world sees with its own eyes how the prophecy of Ezekiel is being fulfilled:
"Behold, I will take the People of Israel from among the nations, whither they are gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land. I will make them one nation in the land.... And they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, wherein your fathers dwelt.... I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with them.... And the nations shall know that I am the L-rd who sanctifies Israel." (Ezekiel 37:21,25-26,28)
It is true that there are people from within and without who are planning and plotting ways of uprooting and banishing Jews from Eretz Yisrael, the land of our life's blood. They would like to establish there a country for a foreign people, G-d forbid, thinking that this will bring peace to Israel. Yet, they are making a terrible mistake, one which stems from a lack of knowledge and a weakness of faith.
They are unaware of the greatness and uniqueness of the Jewish People. They do not believe in the living link between the Land and People of Israel, or in the Jewish People's influence on the entire world. As G-d promised Abraham, "Go forth... to the land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation.... and all the families of the earth will be blessed through you." (Genesis 12:1-3)
The residents of Gush Katif, Samaria, Judea and the Golan Heights are our heroic brethren, and the words of our sages apply to them:
"Regarding those who are insulted without casting insults in return; those who hear themselves disparaged without responding; those who act out of love and rejoice in suffering - Scripture states, 'Those who love Him are like the sun when it goes forth in all its might.'" (Judges 5:31)
You are walking in the path of Joshua bin Nun and Calev ben Yefune, whose hearts were consumed with love and pain for their people and their land. You are the Trumpeldors of our generation. Be strong and courageous! Just as throughout the generations those who love G-d and believe in Him emerged victorious, this time, as well, we shall be victorious, and the merit of your self-sacrifice will defend you, the entire Jewish People and the entire world. May we all merit a new light over Zion!
