The Arab Muslims have an insidious technique of negotiating falsely that seems invisible to the Free West. Have you noticed that every time Arab Muslims have their backs to the wall in a losing position due to a conflict they initiated, they immediately proclaim they are willing to negotiate?
It is terrorists like Yasser Arafat, Osama Bin-Laden and other Al-Qaeda operatives, Saddam Hussein in his time and Moqtada Al-Sadr now (head of Shiite terrorists in Iraq), who rise up and kill. However, when hit hard, they plead for negotiations - only to start attacking again. Nations like Egypt, Libya, Syria, Iran, et al., in prior wars howled for international intervention as they started to lose battles they started. Perhaps it is not just their cleverness in following war and terror instructions from the Koran, but our anxiousness to avoid finishing the battle and our vain hope for an easy way out.
We should have learned the lesson of their trick of calling for a breather - called a hudna or truce - when they say they want to negotiate a fair end to the conflict. They usually use the word "peace" so often that it becomes meaningless, but we Westerners fall for it every time.
This "bait & switch" tactic harks back to Mohammed when he made the ten-year Hudaibiya Treaty in 628 CE with those he could not conquer, but two years later, when he was stronger, he broke the Hudaibiya treaty with the Quraysh tribe.
During his conquests in the Arabian peninsula, there were many battles with the indigenous Jewish tribes or clans(1), which even impacted the Middle East debate in America.(2) Mohammed's revelation of Islam was particularly criticized by the Jewish Qurayza tribe. After they surrendered, Mohammed had 600 men slaughtered, and sold the women and children into slavery.(2)
Arafat frequently refers to this trick, relying upon the ignorance of the West, when he speaks to his people to explain away any call he may make for negotiations and returning to the peace table that never existed. On May 10, 1994, 10 days after signing the "Gaza-Jericho First" agreement, Arafat spoke in English at a mosque in Johannesburg. He was recorded (secretly) as saying: "This agreement, I am not considering it more than the agreement which had been signed between our prophet Muhammad and Quraysh..."(3) Arafat has often since repeated this illusion to the Hudaibiya Treaty to his people in Arabic. It seems obscure to us, but they understand well what he means.
Think of how many times Arafat made agreements - and broke them every time - under the vague promise of 'accommodation' or 'truce' or whatever was supposed to lead to peace. When Arafat's terrorists were stalking around the streets of Amman, Jordan in the 1960s, Arafat made 26 separate agreements with then-King Hussein. Arafat broke every single one, to the point that he put out a contract on the king's brother, after which the king finally declared war in September 1970 and slaughtered 7,000 of Arafat's terrorists. This was called "Black September". Arafat mounted several of his subsequent terror attacks under cover of a front group with the name of honor, "Black September".
Israel made the same pathetically stupid mistake as Jordan and accepted all sorts of accommodations and temporary hudnas, each one broken and each followed by another stupid agreement. The Oslo Accords were signed September 13, 1993 on the White House lawn under the guarantee of President Bill Clinton. Oslo, negotiated secretly by Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres and Yossi Beilin, was not only stupid, it was criminal. The guns and control of territory in Israel's heartland Rabin and Peres gave to Arafat's terrorists enabled them to kill more than 1,500 Israeli Jews (some 45 Americans) and to wound tens of thousands more, many crippled for life.
Needless to say, neither Presidents Clinton nor George Bush accepted the responsibility as guarantors for Arafat's abrogation of Oslo, but continued paying him 200 million American taxpayers' dollars every year.
All of the Oslo Gang should be tried for endangering lives and the Jewish State. The people of Israel were left exposed and made vulnerable by these corrupt politicians.
Perhaps it is acceptable for a politician to make one stupid mistake that costs lives, but when the same mistake is made time and again, then it is no longer mere stupidity, it is a decision made with malice. It is a decision that, in effect, orders the deaths of others. It is a decision in which the deciders have joined with a dedicated enemy and knowingly conspire to allow or enable the terrorists to murder their own people.
Back to the "bait & switch". Each time Israel was fed up with the killings, usually after a particularly gruesome attack, they sent in troops to re-occupy areas over which the Oslo Accords had given control to Arafat's terrorists. Regrettably, many of the strikes were on empty buildings or empty terrorist training camps to pacify the angry Jewish electorate. But when too many Jews were killed, then the bumbling leaders of Israel had to really unleash the IDF (Israel Defense Forces).
When enough terrorists had been killed and their leaders were scurrying underground to avoid being targeted, the terrorists called for a cease-fire. This usually came from Arafat, backed up by the United Nations, the Europeans and pressure from Washington. All pretended that this time he would seriously undertake to cease terror and negotiate from that elusive peace table.
Naturally, the Jewish leftists were screaming that our self-defense is so unfair and retaliation is collective punishment, and other drivel. So there was a brief cease-fire interlude, during which the terrorists re-armed, re-grouped and the terror started all over again - while the leftists babbled about how we hadn't given up enough to satisfy the terrorists.
While that happened repeatedly with the Israelis, we Americans were caught up in a similar syndrome. How many times did we start to take out either Saddam's terrorists or Moqtada Al-Sadr's terrorists? Only, we usually stopped the offensive operations against the terrorists too soon, because everyone was screaming, "Give peace a chance" or "Let's negotiate" or "Let's have a truce to talk over our differences", etc. After all, we were trying to win the hearts and minds of barbarians who didn't appreciate the freedom given to them at the cost of the deaths and wounding of our soldiers.
So, we stopped the operations, the terrorists re-grouped, re-armed, re-positioned themselves and a lot of US soldiers were killed from new and more reinforced positions. There is also the fable of unfair collective punishments. The fact is that terrorists cannot be separated from the people they hide among. They do not act like trained soldiers observing the arcane rules of war.
Whether among the Arab Muslims in Iraq or among the Arab Muslim Palestinians, we observe that the so-called non-combatants swarm into the street, ready to lynch (kill with extreme brutality) any US soldier, worker or non-Muslim civilian who inadvertently takes the wrong turn and falls into their hands.
I recall Winston Churchill's comment about the Germans during World War II: "The Hun is either at your throat or at your feet." How much more true is that of Arab Muslim jihadists, mujahadiin, or the Arab Muslim people at large?
Israel was forced - by its friends and the non-friendly Europeans and Soviets - to halt each of the six wars the Arab Muslim nations mounted against her before Israel could force the Arab enemy to a complete surrender. These outside interests forced cease-fires, armistices, hudnas to save the Arab Muslim armies and terrorist organizations from a total defeat by the Jewish State.
What the Allies wanted for themselves in the defeat of Germany and Japan, namely, unconditional surrender and an unbreakable treaty for the cessation of war, they denied to Israel. As a result, they reaped today what they sowed in the past. They "sowed the wind and reaped the whirlwind" - of global terror. The American CIA trained the Arab Muslims in Afghanistan to beat the Soviets. After they won, the Arab Muslims, now fully trained in the art of terror, returned to sow radical Islamic Jihadism in the Free World, to prepare for world domination by Islam. In the intelligence world, that's called "blow-back" or unintentional consequences.
The West ensured that the Islamic world would build up to what it is now, a threat to the entire world. What's worse, we, the advanced West, greedy for money, sold the Islamo-facists the advanced weapons we developed, used to eventually kill us. We taught the Muslim Jihadists how to make nuclear weapons, develop chemical and biological materials in our own Western universities. We sold them the pre-cursors for super-killing agents and toxins, because we needed their oil and thus had to pacify them.
Remember when Nikita Khrushchev said to John F. Kennedy: "We will sell you the rope you use to hang yourselves with"? We certainly sold the 'hanging rope' to the Arab Muslims.
We cannot deny that we sold the makings, the technologies and the turn-key plants to the Arab Muslims who promise that they will one day vaporize our cities, poison the air we breath and infect our people with incurable plagues we invented in our own laboratories. In the meantime, we will go for the "bait & switch" delaying tactics of a nation like Iran until they have finished developing the nuclear weapons they will use to force us to our knees.
We will keep Israel out of the information loop of whatever we know about the status of Iran's nuclear development because we still want Iran's sweet crude oil, no matter what the price. Perhaps we are already secretly negotiating a hudna with Iran's Ayatollahs wherein we will accept their promise to use their nuclear technology only to make electricity while telling Israel everything's A-OK.
Former President Bill Clinton fooled us about North Korea's nuclear development, ensuring a clear field to continue their development. Can our judgement ever be trusted? I don't think so. Not if you are living in a small nation in a dangerous neighborhood whose people want to see the sun rise next year.
Even our own American people cannot count on the judgement of our elected leaders when the latter first worry about how the Arabs and Muslims would feel if we told Tehran that "you have 10 days to stop your nuclear development or we will take out every nuclear facility you have." We cannot hurt their feelings, lest they stop pumping oil.
If Senator Kerry became president, he would want to consult with France (in French) or the UN for several years before taking action. Our various past American Presidents waited 12 years (!) before taking out Saddam Hussein.
We can no longer wait to eliminate terrorists through lengthy negotiations leading to useless cease-fires. We have provided them with hi-tech missiles and area-wide weapons that can kill thousands with a single strike. Our clever pinpoint hi-tech missiles that are supposed to avoid collateral damage sound great, but they don't result in a complete collapse of the enemy and their full surrender. Every 'civilian' we saved or released from jail, then picks up a gun and kills us. Is there something wrong with that scenario?
The Terrorist Wars just continue and they get more effective in their potential for wiping us out. No more "bait & switch" negotiation tactics. We must all just move forward and destroy the terrorists without a hudna or we will soon have a very empty Planet Earth awaiting a new species - which may be the answer to the chain of events we have set into motion.
I wonder if G-d has come to the same conclusion and that is why His nature is on a rampage?
