It is hard to imagine this could be happening, but it is.

It is hard to believe that nations could hurtle towards suicide while seeking justice, peace and exoneration.

They do. Jewish suicidists have the Jewish state by the throat. They are called 'peacemakers', but they have none to make peace with. Yet they cannot make war because their 'values' forbid it, and because they have transformed the enemy into what he is not and will never be.

These suicidists have fancy names - the 'High Court' and 'Attorney General' and more. Some are called 'international statesman' (Shimon Peres) and others are reformed 'murderers' (Ariel Sharon).

They all stare Islamofascism squarely in the eye and blink. They rationalize the hate that streams out of the mosques and from Muslim TV. They blame the phenomenon of the shahid and Nazi propaganda on eight thousand Jews in Gaza.

The suicidists adopt good portions of that propaganda to justify the internal war against right-wing Jews. They have arrogated to themselves ownership of Jewish morality, though few practice Judaism. More specifically, many are highly antagonistic to anything that 'smells' of Judaism.

After all, they and their parents or grandparents came to Israel to create a New Jew, a Hebrew, who would earn the respect of the world. For a hundred years and more, from the first wave of 'settlers' to the Land of Israel until the Oslo Agreements, they fought for that respect, lost legs, arms, eyes, lives, buried their brothers, sisters, children, cousins.

Apparently, respect was not enough. They wanted respite. This might have been enough, but many wanted love, too, as if to say, "We have spent one hundred years normalizing. Is this not enough?"

The respect was not enough, so in the name of seeking love, Israelis have set out to lose that respect.

(Today, two more buses blew up in Beersheva, capital of the Negev.)

In the past twenty years, you see, Israelis have come to accept much of the propaganda that is outsourced from Riyadh, Cairo and Damascus, circulated by the CNN and BBC, Reuters and AP. They have forgotten how and why Arab refugees came to be. They have forgotten that the Israelis were the true refugees, expelled from the nations of Europe and the Middle East by raw hatred and indifference. And they have adopted, in part, the Arab 'narrative'.

Israelis have come to believe, like American leftists, that it is Jewish and American policies that infuriate Muslim sensibilities. Or 'sensibilities', since a careful examination of Muslim sensibilities reveals that they are neither sensible nor sensitive.

Israelis have become addicted to notions of acceptance by a West that eternally views Judaism and Israel as a stepchild. If the Muslims hold dear the concept of the dhimmi, the tolerated infidel, then the West also has such a concept. And in both definitions, one made in Beirut, one in London and Paris, Jews fit it.

Israelis have become addicted to love, in a world that is, for Jews, without love. In a world that can, at the most, respect us. But only if we respect ourselves.
