An intriguing choice: Let's see. Shall I take $50 from the Israelis to snitch on my brethren or martyr myself for Allah and pleasure myself with 72 virgins?
To hear a Hamas leader tell it, Arabs throughout Israel's territories may well be struggling with this dilemma: Help the Little Satan or move in lockstep with the Arab people and reap their rewards in heaven?
The very fact that many Arabs would even consider such a choice speaks volumes about Hamas and others who advocate Israel's destruction. Their only convincing argument is a gun to the collective head of their people.
It also raises the question as to how Arabs really feel about Israel's existence. If it was not for the extremists among them, would they be willing to live in peace with Israel?
It's impossible to reach any conclusion, because the Arab world is a closed society, but it really looks like many Arabs could live with Israel so long as they are treated fairly and are not bullied by terrorists.
Threatening to kill collaborators, Hamas politburo member Mohammad Nazzal was quoted in a New York Post account as saying, "There are thousands of spies spread among the Palestinian people. These agents are the ones who provide the [Israeli] occupation with information on movements of the leaders."
Hold on. If there are "thousands of spies", what does that say about the Arab cause? Why aren't these "thousands of spies" following the Arab program? If the mullahs' preaching is so sacrosanct, how could even one Arab cooperate with the Israelis?
Nazzal added that "assassination" of collaborators "is being studied seriously."
Hamas leaders and other true believers could well claim that their brethren are taking bribes or have been pressured to help Israel if they want to benefit from needed services, such as hospital surgery for sick family members. That's probably true, but if the Arab cause is so sacred, doesn't that come before making money or providing adequate medical care for one's relatives? After all, why would these Arabs need money when they should be prepared to martyr themselves? And if their family members who are sick are loyal to the cause, they should be most happy to be martyred in place of obtaining required surgery for their medical condition.
I'll suggest another reason for some collaborators. They hate the terrorists more than Israelis do. They must live with the extremists on a daily basis and are probably tyrannized by them. They want these people off their backs.
They are also tired of living in poverty. Many probably yearn for the days when they could enter Israel proper each day and held jobs that paid them a reasonable salary.
They must also be terrified of getting hurt or killed in the crossfire, and they are worried that their children will be influenced into wrapping an explosives belt around their waist to kill themselves along with Israelis.
This kind of thinking would make sense; far more sense than this senseless war.
