I just read a news article that should have grown legs, but hasn?t so far. The implications contained within it spell not merely the end of one of Israel?s major problems, but the end of the Hashemite kingdom and the return of Jordan to its own people.

In a Jerusalem Post article dated December 26 and entitled "Iraq to Weigh Returning Jewish Property," the second part of the piece was devoted to an analysis of the regimes surrounding Iraq. According to a senior source within the Iraqi governing council, "...both the Syrian and Jordanian regimes are now extremely vulnerable ? Jordan, because of its activities before Saddam was overthrown, and Syria because of its activities since his downfall."

Expanding upon the Jordanian theme, this same source further stated "...the governing council has acquired evidence that incriminates the most senior members of the Jordanian royal family in allegedly illegal and corrupt dealings with Saddam."

According to this source, the Iraqi governing council has obtained thousands of documents that reveal a network of politicians throughout the Arab world and even Europe (including the Vatican), who had accepted vast payments from Saddam in the form of ?oil contracts?, which were traded by the Iraqi regime on their behalf. This paper trail was discovered in the files of the Mukhabarat (secret police), as well as the state oil company, and in Saddam's personal office. They expose a huge, far-reaching and intricate scheme that reveals not merely the identities of the corrupt politicians, but also how their cash was laundered.

The article goes on to state "One leading Jordanian politician received more than $3 million in a bank account in Cyprus, the favored first stop in the laundering process. There is also evidence, he said, that the Jordanian authorities had established a sophisticated operation for providing front companies that allowed Saddam to trade on the international market in defiance of UN sanctions. Vast ?commissions? were paid to individual Jordanians for this."

So how will this effect Israel and its problems with the criminal Yasser Arafat and his pseudo-Palestinian Arab entity? (I refer to them as pseudo-Palestinian because for the past 2,000 years, the only people known as Palestinians were the Hebrews, and Palestine was always referred to as the home of the Jewish people ? until Arafat-the-Egyptian stole the name and reassigned it to his ragtag group of Arab undesirables.) Apparently, this source is well aware of the history of Arafat, his followers, and the Hashemite throne, as well as who belongs where when it comes to nationality. He predicts the downfall of Jordan?s puppet-king and the return of the people who comprise the pseudo-Palestinian Arab entity to their rightful homes in Jordan.

The majority of Arafat?s followers in Judea and Samaria are Jordanian by nationality, there never having been a sovereign state of Palestine beyond the historical Jewish one. And while Arafat himself is an Egyptian, the Jordanian king is also a usurper of another people?s land. He and his forefathers are Arabians, having been given rule over the indigenous people by the British. This happened back in 1923, when Britain divided the ?Palestine? portion of the Ottoman Empire into two administrative districts. The area east of the Jordan River was given to Emir Abdullah, who hailed from Hejaz, (now called Saudi Arabia) and who was not even an Arab-Palestinian. This area was then renamed ?Trans-Jordan,? and again renamed ?Jordan? in 1946, perhaps in an effort to obscure the fact that it was a part of the original Palestine. Meanwhile, the portion west of the Jordan River was given to the Jewish people.

It is no secret that the Hashemite kingdom fears the people it rules over. The Arabs who live in Jordan, as well as their relatives who now occupy Judea and Samaria, are ?Jordanian? by heritage (called ?Palestinian?), while their king is not ? and they represent over 70% of the Jordanian population. They did not put him there, many don?t want him there, and he has only survived by keeping out those Arabs who want to return, as well as by international intervention and support. The Iraqi governing council may change all that. Arafat's pseudo-Palestinian-Arabs who have been living in Iraq ? and who were seen as some of Saddam's most steadfast supporters ? have been stripped of their Iraqi citizenship and ordered to leave the country. Most are believed to have settled in Jordan. Meanwhile, Israel?s dependence upon Jordan?s ruling throne to provide a buffer between Israel and Saddam?s Iraq is no longer necessary.

Between the new revelations about the Jordanian monarchy?s dirty dealings with Saddam, and Israel no longer needing Jordan as a buffer from Iraq, the Jordanian monarchy?s stranglehold on the original inhabitants of Jordan has been seriously threatened.

Last year, I had a neighbor who was ?militant? about her rights as an Arab in the Middle East. I asked her where she came from. Her first response was, ?Jordan.? So I asked when she had lived there last. She said she had never lived there. Yet it was obvious to me that she was from the Middle East and not an American. So I asked her where she was from. She told me that she came from ?the West Bank?, but that, ?Allah willing,? she and her people would be able to return to their true home of Jordan.

Maybe Iraq?s new ruling council has the evidence and the ?juice? to fulfill her dream, while also solving Israel?s Arafat problem as a side effect.
