Prime Minister Blair,
During the visit of Prime Minister Sharon to the United Kingdom earlier this year you stated you were a friend of Israel in both good and bad times. Friends show support for each other in times of crisis, but when your friendship was put to the test in the United Nations it failed.
You have publicly stated "there is no compromise with terror, no bit of it that is acceptable" in the context of the current Middle East impasse. Thus, there can be no acceptable reason for voting for the resolution criticising Israel for threatening to remove Arafat. It would appear that you do not believe anything you say on the subject of terrorism and, more to the point, the terrorists themselves realise this.
I am appalled at the action of HM Government that has failed time and time again to recognise that Arafat and his bunch of Tunis henchmen are the world's major terrorists. After ten years, almost to the day, of the signing of the Oslo Declaration of Principles, almost 1,200 Israeli citizens and visitors have been barbarically murdered in cold blood, be it by suicide bombers, snipers, car bombs etc. If we put these numbers into UK terms, it represents 12,000 innocent human lives lost. I am sure that this would be untenable to HM Government and the British public, particularly if such incidents would take place in London and major cities.
It would appear that both HM Government and the US Administration are free to bring about regime change, deposing and even killing heads of regimes world-wide whom they consider unacceptable. Under these circumstances, why is it unacceptable to the British Government when Israel wishes to follow suit? After all, it is not as if the regime they wish to change is thousands of miles away from their shores, like those the UK changed - this regime is literally down the road. Every agreement made by the PA/PLO with Israel has been honoured in the breach and every time the various Israeli Administrations have brought this to the world's attention, it has been the policy of the Western powers to advise Israel to turn the other cheek.
The current crisis has arisen primarily because you obtained assurances from the President of the USA that he would force the 'Roadmap' if the UK joined the coalition against Saddam Hussein. Arafat is as evil, if not more so, than Saddam Hussein and is the greatest danger to world peace since Hitler. HM Government cannot deny that Arafat, together with the PA/PLO, has now distorted Judeo-Christian theology to such an extent that when he unequivocally states that the Temple Mount in Jerusalem is not the site of the Holy Temple where Jesus walked, he is believed. Is this the person that has had the trust of HM Government for the last couple of decades?
It is time the bullyboy tactics that HM Government has adopted, ceased. HM Government bears more than the average share of responsibility for the events in the Middle East stemming from pre-Mandate times, when Jewish rights were ignored in the face of barbaric Arab mobs, and repeated during the British Mandate period. Hitler annihilated six million Jews in cold blood whilst the world stood by without lifting a finger to stop the carnage.
Today, the carnage is continuing in the streets of Israel and still HM Government persists in denying Jewish rights based on the Bible.
