Let's start with WHERE:
Where are we in America? Where are we at the time when Israel needs us the most? Where are our Jewish "leaders"? Where are our rabbis? Are we in a meeting over brunch? Are we at press conferences trying our hardest to get our names in the papers? Are we at gala dinners? Are we at the mall? Or are we pulling up lounge chairs to watch the St. Louis go by, once again?
Where are we? Well, while we are ordering our eggs, playing a game of semantics with the media, arranging our evening outfits and exchanging that pair of shoes, Israel is facing life or death.
WHAT:
What are we? Let us not forget! We are a people that has overcome horrible atrocities, century after century, in every corner of the earth. A people that in the face of unspeakable evil was successful in struggling to put faith, hope and energy into surviving and ensuring that there would be Jewish generations to come. Generations that would proudly carry on our beautiful customs, rich traditions and a life-sustaining heritage.
WHO:
Who are we? Are we spectators or are we participants? Life is not a spectator sport, especially for a Jew. If we do not get involved in applying pressure to our government on Israel's behalf, will we honestly be able to say, "we didn't know."
Who are we? We are you, we are me. We are everyday people with everyday lives. We are not politicians. We are not spiritual leaders. We are not organizational leaders. We are more important than they are. We are the people. We are the ones with the voices. We are the ones who can make a difference by speaking out in massive numbers for Israel. We are Americans who have the power to use our strength in numbers to let President Bush know that America's best friend, Israel, has battled terrorism on her shores for the entire fifty-five years of her existence. We have the power to speak out and convince President Bush that it is a fatal mistake for both America and Israel to ask Israel to do what we Americans are not prepared to do; that is, to negotiate with terrorists.
WHEN:
The time is now. Israelis deal with terror on a daily basis, much of which we, in America, never hear about. There is no time left for us to be in denial about the creation of another state operated by another terrorist regime. A state whose only real agenda is to blast Israel right out of existence. A state whose new Prime Minister is one of the most well known Holocaust deniers in the world today. How many more times should we say, "It will never happen" and "This time it will be different"? The Israeli government unfortunately needs to play "the game" or face repercussions from the Bush appeasement team. It is our obligation to raise our voices and speak out in a way that Israelis cannot. Our brothers and sisters in Israel need us to denounce this Road Map for what it is, a direct path to the end of the only Jewish homeland in the last 2,000 years.
This Road Map, in effect, invites the end of Israel's existence. It is the failed Oslo "peace process" snatched from the garbage pail and dressed up for a repeat performance. In essence, it says the Arabs will get land, sovereignty, weapons, money and whatever else they want in exchange for their empty promise not to kill the Jews of Israel - the same promise they failed to keep for even one day after the ink on the Oslo Accords was dry.
WHY:
Why? Because the survival of the Jewish State is vital to the survival of every Jew in this world. Israel plays a crucial role in the struggles that World Jewry faces. Where would thousands of European, Ethiopian, Iraqi, Iranian and Russian Jews have found refuge in the past century, if not in Israel? Have we learned nothing from the St. Louis disaster?
Arafat, Abu Mazen and their gang from Tunis are breeding a whole new generation of terrorists whose only agenda is the "final solution" of the Jews first and then of any other "infidels" who get in their way. They will have the support of the UN, the EU and the entire Arab world. We must be one people, regardless of political or religious affiliation; if we do not stand together today, tomorrow will be too late.
Action starts with you. We are privileged to live in the United States of America. We have rights not many people in this world have. We have the right to protest, the right to speak our minds, the right to practice our religion freely, and the right to take action in support of our brothers and sisters in Israel.
You do not betray America by denouncing the Road Map. On the contrary, the Road Map will ultimately strengthen terrorism by conveying the message to terrorists that the way to get what they want is to blow up enough innocent people. Surely this message is against American interests and the interests of democratic peoples everywhere.
We, as loyal Americans and as concerned Jews, cannot allow Israel to be bullied into dealing with the very same entity that seeks only to destroy her.
Please, take some time out of your day and let President Bush know how dangerous this Road Map truly is.
