Single mothers don?t deserve tax breaks and benefits. They certainly don?t deserve them more than any other depressed socioeconomic faction in Israel. Single mothers aren?t more morally deserving in their cause, or even worse off than many other sectors. The fact is, single mothers shouldn?t get any tax breaks or benefits at all because of their status.
But single mothers deserve it more than any other sector in Israel for exactly one reason. They are the only ones standing up and yelling against this poorly planned economic disaster that the government is foisting on us under the name of tax reform.
Taxes have been raised across the board, new taxes have been added, bogus income tax cuts have been publicized, while to top it off, the Income Tax Authority is even actively reopening accepted tax returns from years ago and suddenly surprising you with payments they ?forgot? to collect, even reaching the point of their confiscating your car in the middle of the street in surprise tax road blocks.
No one in Israel yelled when Value Added Tax (VAT) was raised. No one yelled when fruits and vegetables were suddenly taxed. No one yells when the government simply dips into your back account and takes out a little more. No one even yelled when our pension plans were plundered, ravaged and raped.
Well, we all received the letter in the mail this week.
This week, the government sneak attacked us again. The Knesset simply voted.
MK Poraz?s Ministry of the Interior raised our city taxes (arnona) 3.5% midyear, presumably to pay off Poraz?s 45 million shekel gift to one of his personal pet projects. Midyear - after we already paid off and were supposedly finished with that particular tax for this year. Our city taxes were raised, not by our local city government, but rather by our elected national officials in the Knesset, whom we?ll elect yet again next time.
And we will pay it silently, like always, because we like being lead like sheep to the slaughter. We will pay it silently, because they can simply take it right out of our bank accounts without offering so much as a thank you. This government simply treats our private bank accounts as if it was the lining of their own pockets, and we let them do it.
We will pay it silently because obviously we must like paying suffocating taxes. We deserve to have our bank accounts bled dry, while we can?t afford to put bread on the table. We deserve a tax plan that it is killing us and our economy.
The only people that don?t deserve for this to happen to them are single mothers. Single mothers are the only ones opening their mouths and taking to the streets.
The rest of us deserve what we lose.
