With the recent spate of genocide bombings, innocent lives are being lost every hour. This fact may make one think there is nothing good to come of all this renewed terror. Yet for some of us Zionists, there are some positive aspects.
So where is the bright side of this most recent wave of terror? For starters, the demise of the ?Road Map.? Those of us who saw the ?Road Map? as a thinly disguised way of legally destroying Israel bit by bit have wanted nothing more than for it to be abandoned. Yet the quartet of countries, led by President Bush, has continued to foist this death certificate upon Israel with unrelenting pressure (maybe as a gift to the Arab countries and Tony Blair). Meanwhile, Ariel Sharon diddles with his political image while Israelis burn in the flames of genocidal attacks.
If this latest wave of terror attacks finally sinks this ?Roadmap to Destruction?, it will be one positive thing to come out of such horror. But there are yet more positive aspects to Arafat?s & Company?s latest salvo of ?peaceful gestures?.
Many of us objected to Mahmoud Abbas as the latest attempt to shove another anti-Semitic terrorist into the role of peacemaker. He not only is the author of a Holocaust denial book, he funded the 1972 Olympic massacre of Israelis. While we have been crying for justice, the Bush White House has been hypocritically trying to present this Jew-hating terrorist as a nice guy willing to live in friendship and harmony with Israel (didn?t Mr. Bush say that those who aid terrorism are just as guilty?). This latest round of unending terror has proven that Mahmoud Abbas cannot control his own people and is therefore useless. So, one more terrorist-US-State-Department-puppet has been made impotent by his own people -- something that we have been unable to do even though we have truth on our side.
Perhaps the most vexing problem has been the PR campaign waged by the Palestinians and their supporters. Through this, they have not only rewritten historical truths, they have convinced the world that they are victims of evil Zionism. They constantly present themselves as a defenseless, peace-loving people at the mercy of the warmongering Jew. This most recent series of attacks proves that on the brink of peace, on the brink of getting their own state, they deliberately choose aggression. Just let the Palestinians try to spin this behavior. We couldn?t have done a better job of showing them up as murderous, duplicitous, genocidal monsters. The whole world is now viewing their horrific actions in real time 24/7.
And finally, the last good thing to come of this latest round of terror is only a possibility, but a better one than ever before. Ever since the start of this latest intifadah, when Arafat rejected having a country with 97% of what he wanted, in favor of a low-level war, Mr. Sharon and his predecessor have not dealt with the problem. Mr. Sharon seems to want to make this war a draw rather than put an end to it. He has been willing to allow the innocent Israeli blood to spill to maintain the status quo of his political career in the national and international arena. He has also altered his stance, and is willing to give concessions to murderers, asking nothing more in return than that they try to control themselves.
Could Israel win this Palestinian-created war? Absolutely. But so far, Sharon has been unwilling to take the hard steps to protect his people and his country. Maybe now the terrorists have pushed him to the point where he will no longer sacrifice Jewish blood in dribs and drabs for the sake of his personal goals. Or if not, maybe the Israeli people will put in a leader who will carry through on his or her promise to protect them.
There is a saying which contains much hope: "It is always darkest before the dawn." Maybe these few positive aspects in this latest round of atrocities are really the first fingers of a glorious new dawn.
