The new Minister of Infrastructure, Yosef Paritzky of the Shinui party, has ordered ten so-called illegal outposts to be disconnected from electricity and water. To me, this sounds like the continuation of the Labor party?s early plans to forcibly evacuate the Jews of Yesha (Judea, Samaria and Gaza) by squeezing them through the cut-off of vital services.
In the early 1980s, I published several articles calling attention to the secret negotiations taking place between the leaders of the Labor party and the head of the PLO, Yasser Arafat, at a time when it was illegal by Israeli law to meet with terrorist organization members. I pointed out that their ?plan? had several stages:
One was to pressure those pejoratively called ?settlers? (whom I call patriots and Zionists). They would at first, subtly, cut off numerous services, such as water, electricity, permits to lay sewer and water pipes, building permits, etc.
The next phase was to withdraw military protection, such as road patrols and checkpoints. In effect, the civilians in the Jewish communities of Yesha would be made vulnerable to attack (as has happened) and terrified.
The third and last phase has A & B components:
a. Urged on by a gradual buildup of pressure, the next step was to offer financial inducements (bribes to leave their homes) as was done in the Sinai desert and Yamit communities (perhaps the word "bribe" is unfair. After all, they had invested all their savings and much of their blood, sweat and tears in building their homes and farms. Therefore, they deserved to be compensated). That was aimed at those who were not ideologically attached to the land, but moved there because it was more affordable and provided a better life.
b. The next group would be split-pressured, by not having official military protection, coupled with financial inducement. This last group was considered to consist of ideologues, tied to the land for idealistic, religious and Zionistic motives and, therefore, not easily moved. Those would be either driven out with specially selected military forces, as was done in Yamit, or simply abandoned to the Arabs, who would be expected to make their lives a nightmare, with the roads virtually impassable due to road-side bombs, sniping and attacks on the communities. This has been happening since Oslo in Gaza, Hebron, all of Judea and Samaria, and over the so-called Green Line into what is euphemistically called "Israel proper".
Minister Paritzky was taken to task by Avigdor Lieberman, who was formerly the Minister of Infrastructure. Lieberman charges Paritzky with using a double standard of the Left. Yet, it goes much deeper than that. It appears that the early plans of the Labor party in the late 1970s and early 1980s, which evolved into Oslo, are continuing, both underground and in official policy. This would include, but not be limited to, forcing the Jews of Yesha to turn over their homes, farms, factories, roads, sewer and water systems, electrical grids - everything - to the incoming Arab Palestinians.
Now we enter that strange relationship between Sharon?s government, the Shinui party and the Bush Road Map. The policy of drying up Yesha actually violates the agreement under which this government was formed. Shimon Peres has, as always, been reported in secret meetings with various Palestinians - all (presumably) with Sharon?s approval. While Sharon, through Foreign Minister Sylvan Shalom, has made much of his intention to demand compliance by the Arab Palestinians, there seems to be a difference in what he says and what he will actually accept. Sharon says the Arab Palestinians must end their terror attacks before Israel will accept another Arab State of Palestine within the heartland of Israel, only 50 miles across from the Jordan River. However, the reality may be much different.
Prime Minister Ariel (Arik) Sharon may have already accepted the Bush-Powell-Rice position that the Quartet?s "Road Map" will be presented - "with no changes whatsoever" - denials notwithstanding. That means that, not only will another Arab State of Palestine be established even as terrorism continues, but the so-called "settlements" will be uprooted before any compliance that includes the cessation of terrorism. Thus, we see the ?camel?s nose in the tent? with Paritzky?s first move to dry up Yesha; in effect, step-by-step accustoming Yesha residents to evacuate their land.
This loops us back to the original forced evacuation plans of the Labor party Left, starting in the early 1980s (although discussions started much earlier, no doubt). Some may recall that, during the last Sharon/Peres government one of the MKs (Members of Knesset) wanted to investigate how Oslo came about, but Peres went ballistic with rage. He threatened to quit the coalition if such an investigation were ever to be undertaken. Sharon caved in, forcing the idea of an investigation into the creation of Oslo off the Knesset agenda. And now, it would appear that Israel?s current government is on the threshold of implementing the very earliest plans of the Left to eject our Jewish pioneers, the "settlers", and create a second State of Palestine - in hopes of pacifying the Palestinians and the Arab nations.
I have always been astonished that the Israeli leadership doesn?t understand Arab/Muslim culture, their religious mind-set, the twin pillars of Muslim pride and shame, which support the Islamic culture and finally the dangerous neighborhood in which the Jews live. The hatred is permanently stamped on all Arabs, including those called Israeli Arabs and nothing, including the abandonment of Yesha, will ever change their minds regarding the need for a Jew-free Land of Israel. A succession of Israeli prime ministers seem to believe that the decisions they make in the privacy of their "Kitchen Cabinets" will be accepted by the Arab/Palestinians. Having failed repeated appeasement, one would understand that another Arab Palestinian State will be the stake that the Jews would drive into their own hearts.
It has been reported that, despite the ineptness of successive Israeli governments, there are those in both Houses of the American Congress who oppose vacating the land in order to godfather another Arab/Muslim state in Palestine, which would continue to be a base of global terrorism. Neither PM Sharon nor prior Israeli prime ministers have ever understood the strong support available to them in Congress. Fortunately, there are Americans who do not wait for Israel?s enlightenment, but who are pro-active on Israel?s behalf as they see fit. Urge your Congressman and Senators to join their colleagues who object to the ?Quartet?s? "Road Map".
