Six workers in the Jerusalem branch of the National Insurance Institute (NII) were arrested today on suspicion of having accepted bribes in return for issuing residency cards to Arabs of the Palestinian Authority. The police estimate that the false papers merited these Arabs millions of shekels of public funds over the past few years. Another suspect in the case acted as a "double agent" in that he allegedly transmitted to the PA computer printouts from the NII with information on eastern Jerusalem Arabs that he suspected of cooperation with Israel.
