Yediot Acharonot, Israel's largest daily newspaper, praises former IDF Chief of Staff Sha'ul Mofaz’s appointment as Defense Minister, noting that there are three main requirements for the job: "He must have personal knowledge of the complex security reality in Israel since the outbreak of the intifada; he must enjoy professional prestige in the military establishment and thereby be able to impose his authority on it; and he must enjoy the trust of the Prime Minister. Sha'ul Mofaz completely answers all these criteria.” The paper observes that Mofaz is not a “hawk,” that he could “also have served as Defense Minister in a Labor government," and that "Mofaz’s entry to the position of Defense Minister will strengthen Israel’s security.” Mofaz spent his first hours on the job yesterday visiting wounded victims from yesterday's terrorist attack in Kfar Saba.
