While not technically part of the Arab press, the following item from Iran shows a cross-cultural appreciation and understanding between Arabs and Persians worthy of inclusion in this section of IsraelNationalNews.com.

The Teheran Times reported this week that the ?Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei... termed martyrdom as a decisive element of national strength and devotion.... The Leader... also referred to martyrdom as the most beautiful of human values.? The term ?martyrdom? in the lingo of Moslem fundamentalism, it should be noted, is not limited to being killed for remaining faithful to one?s faith, but includes suicide bombings and the like.

Expressing a similar sentiment, as reported by Teheran Times, ?[T]he Leader stressed that enemies of Islam today are trying to undermine jihad and the virtue of martyrdom.? The Iranian Ayatollah also reportedly ?called on all Iranian students to value martyrdom.? Khamenei made the remarks in an address to the Iranian congress, convened to commemorate the memory of martyred students.
