According to an article in the Egyptian newspaper al-Gomhureya, the success of the annual International Cairo Book Fair is a direct credit to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. It reflects the democratic, peace-loving, justice-seeking, security-enhancing, stable and involved nature of the Mubarak regime. The Cairo Book Fair, the newspaper crows, ?hosts millions of Egyptian, Arab and world visitors who consider it the greatest cultural event in the Middle East.?

Noting that the exhibition ?comprises this year 97 countries, 3125 publishers, exhibiting five million books,? al-Gomhureya continues, ?Over and above, there will be as usual cultural, scientific and intellectual symposia that stress this year on modernization and globalization.?

All of this is only possible, the Egyptian newspaper claims, ?thanks to the political stability and the active role played by Egypt under President Mubarak in the region for realizing peace and security based on justice.? The article fails to make the logical leap between Egypt hosting Hamas and Fatah for talks on how to proceed in the war against Israel, while boycotting the Jewish state, and the success or failure of a book fair, but in a regime such as Egypt?s, all successes tend to be credited to the supreme leader, regardless of the objective facts. The article declares: ?Categorically, the flourish and well-reputed fame gained by the annual International Cairo Book Fair reflects the democratic atmosphere adopted by Egypt.?
