According to the Globes financial newspaper, Israeli importers pay their debts to foreign suppliers more consistently, by 21.5%, than companies in most countries in the world, including developed countries. Israel has consistently shown a higher than global average payment ethic since the year 2000.
A joint Coface-Business Data Israel (BDI) report on the payment ethic of Israeli companies towards foreign suppliers has even shown an improvement in the third quarter of 2002. Globes notes that the ?improvement in Q3 is particularly notable in view of the decline in the index worldwide, including world trading leaders like the US, Canada and UK.? One explanation offered by BDI to explain the Israeli importers high payment ethic relative to other countries, is that Israeli importers are more financially stable, and consequently less vulnerable, and more able to meet their obligations.
