Israel?s English-language debate team rose to victory in the European Debating Championship, in Stuttgart, Germany last week. The team, from the Israeli Debating Society (Siah vaSig), was judged, by five out of seven judges, to have made the superior argument in a debate with a Lithuanian team. The Israeli team had to argue against the proposition that ?all wars are unjust.?



The Siah vaSig team consisted of Tahel Ilan, 14, Moshe Medved, 16, and Yishayahu Hurwitz, 17, Boaz Goldstein, 17, and Gadi Abraham, 17, of Re'ut. According to a report in the Jerusalem Post, the Israeli team was received warmly, even enjoying a certain amount of popularity. The next stop for the Siah VaSig debate club is the World Schools Debating Championship in Lima, Peru, scheduled for this August.
