Canada has officially joined the anti-Israel European Union. With France leading the pack, its old French colony in North America is becoming the new expert on Middle East affairs, proving that the apple never seems to fall too far from the tree.
Canadian democrats displayed their true colors recently by not allowing Benjamin Netanyahu to deliver a speech at a leading university. There have been numerous attacks on Jews in Canadian cities, especially Montreal, which has a large Muslim population. Pro-Palestinian demonstrations, including virulent anti-Semitic placards, have become commonplace. These were "signs" of things to come.
Then the socialist Canadian government made another brilliant decision - although later reversed - by revoking tax exempt status on donations to Magen David Adom, Israel's emergency medical service, because they happen to drive over the 1967 ?Green Line? to save lives. Yet, donations to many Islamic charities, including those supporting Hamas and linked to other terrorist groups, were always completely tax-free. The good news continues to pour in as Fauzi Ayub, a Canadian citizen recruited by (Canadian) Hizbullah, was arrested by the Shin Bet for involvement with Palestinian terrorists in Hebron.
The Canadian people have two very serious problems. First and foremost, they do not want to be considered anything like their nice neighbor to the south. The world has often thought of Canada as a mere appendage of America, because they never developed a personality of their own. Therefore, Canadians recently concluded that since America supports the lone moral democracy in the Middle East, then by golly, Canada will support their opponent, no matter how evil they may act. Canadian immigration policy has become so lax, that the United States has been forced to tighten its northern border even more so than its border with Mexico.
Canada and "the rest of Europe" should realize that America's record for opposing tyranny is quite good compared to theirs, so perhaps a lesson should be learned. Instead, like children, they are adamant in displaying an independent nature by opposing a decent, strong American parental figure who carries the awesome responsibility of watching over the world. This independence "phobia" manifests itself through some rather bizarre conduct and ridiculous foreign policy decisions. The Canadian populace has rebelled against its superpower American neighbor by rejecting a similar relationship with a wonderful, decent, democratic nice Jewish nation, and instead, chooses to get more involved with the radical, totalitarian Arab/Muslim world. Israel must be very careful about having "intimate relations" with any nation, other than the United States.
Canada's second problem is that they believe, much like Europe, that you can negotiate and appease evil. If only Israel would buy Arafat a cup of coffee and talk to him, more negotiations, more UN accommodations with Iraq... this will solve the global terrorism problem. The Canadian/European mentality is that Americans are a bunch of cowboys and Israel is the posse. However, Canada and the EU are the true sophisticates, because they wish to move beyond what America and Israel hold dear ? a proud nationalistic, religious, moral society that has retained a willingness to fight and an attachment to history. According to those non-American "progressives," such thinking is old-fashioned.
Jean Phillipe Tachdjian, the public affairs officer at the Canadian Embassy in Cairo said recently, "Just because the US does anything, it does not mean Canada does the same." How pathetic a point, but his foolishness actually increased ? "Unlike the US, Canada has not given a single cent in aid to Israel." He concluded his diatribe by pointing out that "any US action in Iraq without the UN is inappropriate." Only an elite Canadian university could have produced an individual with such gross incompetence and flawed reasoning.
It should come as no surprise that North Korea has been granted permission to open a Canadian embassy, in anticipation of a growing relationship. But Jewish ambulances in the West Bank; now there is true evil!
As time goes on, Canada will continue to execute a misguided foreign policy against America and Israel. A fair reaction should be a boycott of all Canadian goods. However, since virtually nothing but hockey sticks are produced there, such punishment would probably not be very effective. Therefore, the response will just have to involve staying on the American side of Niagara Falls, while letting Canada implode as it seems to be doing through regional, linguistic, ethnic, religious and cultural infighting.
