At the end of October, approximately 100 bicyclers made their way from the Alyn Children?s Hospital in Jerusalem to Eilat, a trip of more than 220 miles. The marathon was to raise money for the Jerusalem hospital, billed as ?Israel's only pediatric and adolescent rehabilitation center,? which handles very serious injuries either from birth, accidents, or terrorism.
The 100 bikers, including twenty people who came especially from abroad to take part, rode about 100 kilometers a day. Atid-EDI, whose vice president Meir Chasan was among the organizers of the event, reported that each rider paid ?some $300 to cover their own expenses and were expected to raise at least another $2000 for the hospital....? Last year, the Atid-EDI report stated, ?the bikathon raised over $250,000 for the hospital....?
