A World Center for Ethiopian Jewish Heritage is to be established in Jerusalem. The announcement of the project was made earlier this month at a special ceremony attended by Mayor Ehud Olmert and dozens of leaders of the Ethiopian Jewish community in Israel. The World Center will temporarily be located in the Talpiot section of the capital, with permanent premises to be allocated in the near future.

The World Center is to include a museum, a visitors center, and research and study facility, among other things. One of the important aspects of the Center will be to document and preserve the oral histories of the Jews from Ethiopia, particularly as the community becomes more assimilated into the wider Israeli society. The establishment of the Center is in line with a six-year-old government decision, reports the Jewish Agency?s Global Jewish Agenda. An association headed by Prof. Michal Corinaldi was originally tasked with the establishement and running of the Center.
