The Ministry of the Environment says that Lebanon is dumping sewage water into the Ayoun River on Israel's northern border. The Ministry's northern branch director Shlomo Katz reported today that the Lebanese had dumped four tanks of sewage down a water route that ultimately leads into Israel's Kinneret Sea, the country's main source of drinking water. Katz called on the government to take action to end this activity.
This is the second time in recent weeks that Lebanon has provoked a water crisis with Israel. Just last month, Lebanon inaugurated a water-pumping station on the Wazzani River, diverting water from Israel's supply. Prime Minister Sharon said at the time that he would not tolerate this change in the status quo - but has since done nothing.
