Paris was the place for an unusual gathering of Israelis, Arabs from several middle eastern countries, as well as the Palestinian Authority, Greeks, Turks, Pakistanis and Iranians. The members of the various delegations, scientists and diplomats, met to establish a synchrotron accelerator facility in Jordan, for the use of scientists from the region. The project, under the auspices of UNESCO, is administered by representatives of Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Iran, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Greece and Turkey.

The facility, to be constructed starting this December, will be able to serve research needs in protein molecules structure, drug development, atmospheric pollutants, or even the analysis of archaeological finds. Parts needed for the synchotron have already been delivered from Germany.
