The Jewish community of Swansea, Wales, has decided to donate six Torah scrolls to Israeli institutions, four to the Israel Defense Forces for use on military bases and two to Israeli schools. The scrolls arrived in Israel this past week on a special El Al flight arranged by the Jewish Agency. The Agency?s Global Jewish Agenda newsletter reports, ?The Torah scrolls were dedicated at a special ceremony at the Chaplaincy Corps Base in Tsriffin (Sarafand), under the aegis of Brig.-Gen. Rabbi Yisrael Weiss, Chaplain General of the IDF.?

The scrolls came from the Swansea synagogue in Wales, desecrated in an anti-Semitic act of vandalism several weeks ago. Of Wales? 1300 Jews, about 100 live in Swansea. The remaining Jews live in Cardiff. Both Jewish communities are under the spiritual leadership of Rabbi Joseph Ives of Cardiff.
