Jewish women are taking up the challenge of supporting Israel and expanding their Jewish horizons at the same time.
Described by spokespeople as ?Israel's Dynamic Introductory Study Program for Jewish Women?, ?Jewel? is serving as the framework for fifty women on special 10-day solidarity missions in Israel. The first such group arrived in Israel this week. The women will be studying Judaism and traveling around the country for the duration of their visit. ?Jewel? runs month-long programs of study, as well.
The American religious Zionist women?s organization, Emunah, has sent six missions over the past month to Israel, with another four planned for July alone. The missions are part of a new campaign called ?Am Yisrael Chai Solidarity Missions? and are often sponsored in conjunction with synagogues from around the United States. During the week-long junkets, the groups volunteer on IDF bases, distribute charitable funds, visit Judea, Samaria and Gaza communities and meet terror victims. The missions are, according to the organization, to ?express our achdut with the people of Israel.?
