The Israeli Ministry of Absorption recorded more than 3,000 inquiries by Israelis living abroad in the month of April alone. This represents a 400% increase over the month of March. The inquiries represent Israelis seeking information about their rights as returnees. The majority of Israelis contacting the Ministry offices are from the United States, rather than Europe, as might have been expected considering the rise in anti-Semitism on the Continent.
A Jewish Agency report attributes the growing interest to ?the rise in solidarity with Israel following Operation Defensive Shield, increased efforts by the Jewish Agency and the Ministry of Absorption to encourage Israelis living abroad to return, and no doubt the wave of anti-Semitic incidents??
