The April 14th Editorial of the WAFA news agency, official media arm of the PLO, concluded by saying ?The Palestinians are very sad and sorry, we wished that Colin Powell liked us, yet we are not fools and we understand politics, we want to like the USA even when the USA harms us, but we love our home land much more, that is why all we have is steadfast in here, even if it costs us our life, but Allah always prevails.? The editorial expressed the PLO frustration with the weakness of Arab support for the leadership of the Palestinian Authority and the impotence of Arab states in the face of US Secretary of State Colin Powell.
?Mr. Powell should have brought with him a clear USA political position,? the PA editorial stated, ?has the USA changed, even a little, from its traditional attitude and position towards Israel, by supporting it, favoring it and fully arming it?? Noting that this is clearly not the case, the editor asked ?Was the Arab Leaders' bashful speech the reason for which Mr. Powell takes their position lightly? Is their weightless position that encouraged Powell to dictate his conditions on the Palestinians?? In an odd comment, the editorial then asked, ?[I]s the Arabic language still, according to the Americans, a language of double meanings, one meaning for closed doors and the other is for the public??
Powell, on the other hand, according to the editorial, ?did not consider worthy to visit [the refugee camps], not even out of curiosity, in order to see the dimensions of the disaster, fearing that such scenes might change the entire policy of the USA?? Had the Arabs been able to effectively mobilize their power, according to the PA news agency, ?the USA Minister? wouldn't have visited the northern border of Palestine [the border with Lebanon], but gone strait to Jenin Camp and Nablus aided with an air mask to protect him from the odors of the scattered corpses everywhere left by the Israelis?? Assuming a predisposition against the Arab world, the WAFA news agency chastised, ?The USA Minister should have come to the region with less hatred to the Palestinians, and much less spiteful towards the Arabs? but regretfully he came reflecting the typical USA position, proving that he did not change, neither did the USA.?
For now, the WAFA editorial stated, ?We need to refuse the USA policy that imposes on us solutions against our interest and against the interest of the Arab world that has bigger, greater and longer interests with the USA.? In order to do so, the author suggested, ?the Arab Leaders must reconcile with their brethren neighboring countries and with their citizens?[who] demonstrated in the streets?? Ominously, for the Arab leaders, the PA editorial asks, ?Which is preferred, to be accepted by the citizens or to please the USA? The USA that is unable to protect and immunize a leader, who is strongly rejected by his people.?
?Today is better than tomorrow which will be better than the day after tomorrow,? the PA writer encouraged his readers, ?therefore the USA should anticipate, be prepared and act to prevent the worst? fighting weaponry is possible but fighting a human bomb is impossible because it is the weapon of the individual and it is hidden deep inside the individual's brain, and it is unseen??
