The municipality of the city of Ra?anana, known as ?the Jewel of the Sharon?, has become the first in Israel to be recognized for achieving the international ISO-14000 environmental protection standard. The municipality was recognized, according to the ISO-14000 management standard, as applying ?sustainable? policies, which balance economic, social and environmental demands without over-taxing its environmental resources. The ISO-14000 is an international standard for minimizing harmful environmental effects caused by the activities of organizations and authorities.
The Ra?anana municipality has already won many awards for its activities, promoting environmental quality and quality of life, as well as the high level of its city infrastructure. It was recognized for the quality of its public services five years ago, when it was recognized by the Israeli Standards Institute as having met the international standard ISO-9002.
