Israeli skaters Galit Chait and Sergei Sakhnovski won the third place medal for Ice Dancing in the 2002 World Figure Skating Championships, held in Nagano Japan in late March. The pair, coached by Natalia Dubova, skated a near-perfect Free Dance to Jewish folk music, along with very good performances in the compulsory and original dance competitions.
Sakhanovski competed for the Russian Federation before immigrating to Israel and was the 1993 World Junior Champion with partner Ekaterina Svirina. Galit Chait was born in Kfar Saba and currently lives, like Sergei, in Metulla. The partnership has been a very successful one as the pair has consistently placed among the top five, and often in second place, in international competitions over the past two years. After the 2000/2001 season, they switched coaches, leaving Tatiana Tarasova to train with Natalia Dubova.
