The Jordan Times reported this pasty week on the stunning victories for Islamist factions in the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) elections. The Association is divided into several smaller units, each representing a field of engineering and each with its own elections. The Jordan Times reported that ?Islamists defeated nationalists and leftists??, winning ?all seven seats in the electrical and mechanical units, and five out of seven seats in the architectural unit?? The overall result of the elections is that the JEA council, reports the Times, ?is now controlled entirely by Islamists.? The JEA, according to the Jordanian newspaper, ?is the largest of the country's 14 professional associations, grouping around 48,000 members.?
