It?s now official, Israelis are experts at arguing. Even in English.

Yehoshua Gutler and Roi Weisner of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem have won the 2002 World English as a Second Language (ESL) final of the World University Debating Championships, in Toronto, Canada. Not only did the Israeli team win the debating competition, but they had to face yet another Israeli team to do so. The Hebrew U. team successfully debated Nanyang, Tel Aviv University and, finally, India Law for the victory. The final topic of the debating competition was ?that the Nobel Prize proves that the UN has a strong role to play.?

An Israeli was also recognized as the champion public speaker for 2002. Hebrew U. debating team member Roi Weisner won the 2002 Public Speaking Championships, as well.
