While killing Jews in Israel is very rarely, if ever, defined as terrorism in the Arab press, other killings are so defined. For instance, the killing of stray animals.

?These acts fall under the definition of terrorism,? said the director of Animal Life of Lebanon, veterinarian Rose-Mary Jawhar. Lebanon?s Daily Star newspaper reported on the story of the protest of Animal Life, which it called ?a local association launched in June to protect animals from abuse and neglect,? against the systematic killing of strays in certain areas of Lebanon. The organization told the Daily Star that all of its petitions to local and national officials have been in vain and the killings continue. Furthermore, reports the Star, ?the government is also guilty of permitting the hunting of endangered coastal species such as turtles.?

While Animal Life is reportedly frustrated and ignored, reports the Lebanese Daily, it has suggested that animal shelters be built to protect the strays from their sad fate and keep them out of the way of people. According to the Animal Life director, as reported in the newspaper, ?the current practice goes against international animal rights regulations? including the duty not to be cruel to animals.? Like other frustrated Middle Eastern groups, Animal Life threatens that ??If these (municipalities) do not respond to our proposals, we will have to address the European Union about the matter??? quotes the Daily Star.

As the Lebanese newspaper put it, ??terrorism? has taken on a whole new face??
