An Egyptian author, writing in al-Wafd, responded to an al-Ahram article detailing the Holocaust, ?its roots in the history of Jews and its image as reflected now in the American mind.? The al-Wafd commentator said that the article on the Holocaust made him think of what he sees as ?a comparison between the plight of Jews under Nazi rule, and the pain inflicted on the Palestinian people by the Jews in their forefathers' land.? According to the article, ?The Palestinians have been imprisoned, killed and exposed to weapons more lethal than those used by the Nazis against the Jews. The situation of the Palestinians in the occupied territories is analogous to that of Jews in Nazi prisons.?
?Jews have moreover exploited the Holocaust to their utmost advantage?? the al-Wafd article states, ?Meanwhile, Jews adopt the same fascist policies they have long condemned.? The article cites as an example of such policies, as it sees them, the destruction of the Palestinian Authority airport in Dahaniya. ?Could it be categorized as an act of self-defense?? the Egyptian newspaper asks, ?Is this not destruction meant to provoke a Palestinian retaliation? And when a retaliation does comes into effect, how can it be called terrorism?? The Jewish claim that Arab actions against them is anti-Semitic, states the al-Wafd article, ??is a case of racism in full swing; the Jewish people will not have their fellow-Semitics enjoy the same kind of terrorist peace they have imposed by force of international Zionism. By discriminating in its treatment between Arabs and Jews, the world seems to have lost all credibility.?
Yet, the al-Wafd piece points to the ultimate culprit not in Jerusalem, but in Washington: ?Where has America's credibility gone? It is America's arrogance of power which has created this humiliating situation we find ourselves in.?
