A Jewish men?s choir consisting of graduates or students of the Higher College of Music in Moscow is coming to Israel next month for a series of concerts throughout the country, reports the Jewish Agency. The choir, called Kafaliya Hassidiscky (?Hassidic Chapel?), performs liturgical and popular Jewish music at the classical level in synagogues and at concerts all over Russia and Europe. The 20 singer choir is conducted by Alexander Celiuk and, according to the Jewish Agency publication, ?learnt the old tunes from the famous cantor Yosef Malovany in the US, who has appeared with the choir in Moscow.?

The Music College itself was founded in 1991 and it provides performances all over Russia in an effort to revive Jewish life. While the music is particularly popular there and in Eastern Europe now, it had been outlawed by the Communist regime for close to 70 years. The College has provided choirs that traveled to various destinations around the world, as well, anywhere Jews gathered to reminded of Jewish culture.

The Jewish Agency has provided the following itinerary for the choir: In Be?ersheva (February 9), in Petach Tivah (February 10 at Heichal Cinema), in Upper Nazareth (February 11 at Berkovitz Community Center), Nayariya (February 12), Gan Shmuel (February 13), Ashkelon (February 14), Haifa (February 15 at Northern Theater), in Tel Aviv (February 16 at Mann Auditorium), and in Jerusalem (February 17 at Binyanei Ha?uma).
