According to an agreement signed by representatives of the Israeli National Laboratory Accreditation Authority, ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation organization) and the EA regional organization, Israeli standards for weighing and measuring exported goods will gain international recognition. The agreement, signed in Tokyo, Japan, sets out uniform rules for examining labs worldwide. The Israeli National Laboratory Accreditation Authority, affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, was reviewed by ILAC and found to comply with all international criteria, allowing the signing to go forth. Thus far, thirty countries have signed the agreement, including Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Finland, Denmark, South Africa and Vietnam.

The impact of the agreement will be measured in a savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars for Israeli exporters and manufacturers. Under the new agreement, Israeli exporters will not be required to perform further weighing and measuring of Israeli goods at their ports of destination in those states honoring ILAC standards. This will prevent perishable goods from being lost due to administrative delays at international ports and will smooth the export of Israeli products bearing certification from Israel?s accredited laboratories.
