Two more missions are currently in Israel, in order to show their solidarity with the Jewish State. One group is made up of university students and one is a joint mission of Christian and Jewish Zionists. Both of the groups are from the United States.

The student group, made up of fifteen members from the University of Maryland, arrived on December 25 and will be spending nearly a month working on Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu. The students will be volunteering on the kibbutz, touring the Jordan Valley and learning about Israel and Jewish history and modern Israeli life. The trip was sponsored by the Jewish Agency for Israel-Israel Aliyah Center of Greater Washington in Rockville and facilitated by Yair Kalush, who saw to it that the students only had to pay airfare.

Another fifteen member mission to Israel, which arrived this week, is made up of Jews and Christians, all of whom ?love Israel,? in the words of one of the participants. The mission members will be based in Jerusalem, but will be meeting with various Israeli personalities and touring important local sites.

The Interfaith Solidarity Mission includes some members of pro-Israel coalition from Fort Worth, Texas. According to Monica McMillen, who heads the coalition, ?We do not let ANY anti-Israel article or letter go unanswered in our papers. Since the Intifada started, we've had 106 of our letters? and one op-ed [published].? The mission members wished to convey to the Israeli people, ?although we are small in number, Israel is not forgotten.? Also participating in the mission is Dr. Michael Franzblau of San Francisco, who was featured in a CBS "60 Minutes" program for his efforts to get an ex-Nazi removed from a position with an international health organization. Dr. Franzblau is on the US board of the Anti-Defamation League board and is continually lecturing around the world on Israel-related issues.
